Impact Through Community Work

The main charity each year is chosen by the incoming Master of the Lodge.
We have recently supported the following good causes/charities:

Children’s Hospice South West

Total Raised: £500.00

Members of Nyanza Lodge Ilminster have proudly donated £500 to Children’s Hospice South West, supporting the charity’s invaluable work with children who have life-limiting conditions and their families.

The donation is part of the Lodge’s ongoing commitment to supporting local charities and community initiatives. Children’s Hospice South West provides vital care, respite, and support to children and their families across the region, helping them make the most of every precious moment.

Nyanza’s Charity Steward W Brother Martin Lock said “We are delighted to contribute to such a meaningful cause. The hospice offers incredible support to families during unimaginably difficult times, and we hope our donation will help continue that essential work.”

The Lodge regularly raises funds through members contributions and charity events, with strong emphasis on giving back to the local community whenever possible. This donation reflects the Masonic values of compassion, relief, and brotherly support.

Herne View Primary School

Total Raised: £2,760.00

Nyanza Lodge recently made a generous donation of £2,760 to Herne View Church of England School. This funding was specifically aimed at enhancing the school’s sensory facilities, which provide vital support for children who require additional sensory input to self-regulate and thrive in their learning environment. The Sensory Rooms, staffed by specialists, play a crucial role in the school’s commitment to holistic education and the well-being of its pupils.

The funds were largely raised during the Lodge’s Summer Lunch, attended by school representatives, including the Special Educational Needs Coordinator (SENCO), and members of the Provincial Grand Lodge of Somerset. The initiative highlighted the Lodge’s dedication to supporting the local community, particularly institutions like Herne View that prioritise innovative educational methods to meet diverse student needs. The school has already observed positive impacts on children’s development, with many families expressing their gratitude for the improved facilities.

The sensory spaces, known as "the Core", provide children with an essential retreat for calming and self-regulation. Both pupils and parents have shared heartfelt appreciation, with one child describing the area as a safe haven to decompress when feeling overwhelmed. A parent further emphasised how the Core has been transformative for their sensory-seeking child, who enjoys the variety of features available, particularly the spinning seat.

Royal National Lifeboat Institution

Total Raised: £500.00

Nyanza Lodge members, Worshipful Master, Ian Pamplin and Charity Steward, Martin Lock presented a cheque for £500 to the RNLI at Lyme Regis. This followed a fascinating powerpoint presentation at Nyanza Lodge by Bro.
