Who are Freemasons?

We are just a bunch of ordinary guys just like you - We are not a mysterious clan with special powers!

Freemasons come from all walks of life: Bricklayers to Royalty, Rank or Station is of no consequence, we value each other for what we are not what we have achieved – we are brothers to each other regardless of status.

Most of our members come from towns and villages in our area, but some from as far away as London.

Freemasonry in the UK is one of the World's oldest social and charitable organisations, donating over £55m annually to local and national charities, and have over 200,000 members.Nyanza Lodge in particular is steeped in a rich history of raising money for our local charities and good causes

Freemasonry - What's it all about?

It is based on the traditions of medieval stonemasons and its guiding principles, which include integrity, friendships, respect and service.

Integrity
Freemasons focus on building themselves as people of integrity and membership provides the structure to help this.
Friendships
Freemasonry is not defined by ideology but is open to all religious and political persuasions and provides the foundation of friendship between members.
Respect
Freemasons are expected to respect the opinions of others and behave with kindness and understanding regardless of race, religion or any other perceived differences that can divide us as a society.
Service
Service is central to freemasonry, and members contribute their time, resources and skills in many ways including participating in events, fundraising for charitable causes and volunteering for community organisations.

Most importantly it's about ENJOYMENT in or out of the lodge and throughout the masonic year, whether it's a summer BBQ with family and friends, quiz night, ladies' festival or simply a pie and a pint after a meeting, you will be made very welcome. Of course, there is a lot more that goes on, but it is a journey of discovery!
